Late Entry

We have received notice of cancellation from some participants. If you would like to take part either in the fell race or the fund-raising walk of the Old Crown Round, contact It's first come, first served!

The Old Crown Round is a 24 mile round of the Caldbeck Fells which have lent their name to beers brewed by Hesket Newmarket Brewery and sold in the Old Crown (the pub next door).

The next Old Crown Round event will take place on Saturday 22 July 2017. This is great day out and by entering you will be raising money for a worthy cause as all proceeds go to the Great North Air Ambulance.

On Skiddaw

There will be two events running together, a Fell Race operating under FRA rules starting at 9.00am. and a Walkers' round. 'Walkers' will register between 6.00am and 8.30am and start in their own time.

All participants will have until 9.00pm to finish the round in order to have their time recorded. To keep up motivation, a ‘tipple’ of the appropriate ale or porter will be available on each of the four local fells which have lent their name to a Hesket beer. On each summit this will be limited to a maximum of a third of a pint (we hope to raise some money for the North Air Ambulance team rather than create more work for them). The charge for entering either the Fell race or the walk is £15 and entry must be done online.

There will be route marshalls on the principal summits and at Skiddaw House, but otherwise the route will not be marked or signed except for the start/finish and participants are responsible for their own navigation on the course. Note that the route crosses large trackless areas of fell and the fastest lines involve wading through rivers.

All participants must bring safety equipment (full set of waterproofs, map, compass, and a fully charged mobile phone) and come prepared to show these at registration and should carry their own means of hydration which can be replenished at Skiddaw House. Tea, coffee and soup will be available free of charge from the marshals at Skiddaw House.
