Route information

Our Miss Potter Tour is a mixture of short mountain hikes, longer low-level walks and touring and sightseeing by private vehicle and on foot. The tour is graded moderate and is suitable for people with an average level of fitness who are used to walking and hiking.

Day 1: Pick up at Penrith rail station & drive to Keswick. Introduction to Keswick and lakeside walk.

Day 2: Cross Lake Derwentwater by boat and walk up 'Catbells' , return on woodland walk by the lake shore.

Day 3: Drive through the Buttermere Valley, walk to a viewpoint above Loweswater and visit Whitehaven on the West Coast

Day 4: Take the train to Ribblehead, walk an old drovers' road to Dent and drive to Ambleside in the Southern Lake District.

Day 5: Visit Loughrigg Tarn and hike across Loughrigg Fell for exceptional views of lakes and mountains.

Day 6: Walk Tarn Hows to Coniston, visit Hawkshead Village and Beatrix Potter's home at Hill Top House. We return to Ambleside with a cruise on Lake Windermere.

Day 7: After breakfast drive to Kendal, the gateway to the Lake District for onward rail connections.
