Wednesday 14 May. Castle Crag from Grange in Borrowdale

Castle Crag – small but perfectly formed. The only fell under a thousand feet to be given its own chapter in Wainwright’s books. A very nice ramble to a rocky summit with a superb vista over Wainwright’s ‘best square mile in Lakeland’. Rendezvous at 12.45 pm at the bridge in Grange in Borrowdale. (GR: NY 25256 17502) (13.25 Borrowdale Rambler bus from Keswick). 3½ miles – 906ft of ascent. Grade C

Thursday 15 May. Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks from Gatesgarth

Haystacks was one of Wainwright’s personal favourites and is his last resting place. By combining the climb with an ascent of the shapely Fleetwith Pike, we have a superb round of Warnscale in Buttermere. Rendezvous at Gatesgarth Farm in Buttermere (GR: NY 19506 14982) at 10.00 am. 6 miles – 2727ft of ascent. Grade A. The first 10 people booked on this walk will receive a free soft shell jacket from RESULT, so book early and quote your jacket size!

Friday 16 May. Scafell Pike from Borrowdale via Esk Hause

A challenging ascent of England’s highest peak by arguably its finest route via Esk Hause, and the rocky shoulders of Broad Crag and Ill Crag. Rendezvous at 9.30am at Seathwaite Farm (GR: NY 23526 12252). 8 miles – 3306ft of ascent. Grade AA.
Each participant will receive a free map from Ordnance Survey!

Saturday 17 May. Helvellyn via Striding Edge ............ This trip is now Full

A walk from the second series of the BBC Wainwright Walks, this is one of Lakeland’s finest, traversing its third highest mountain by the encircling arêtes of Red Tarn. Start at 10.00 am. at Glenridding Information Centre (GR: NY 38577 16992). 8½ miles – 2990ft of ascent. Grade AA and Grade 1 Scramble. Also a chance to win a New Air Zone hiking packs from Lowe Alpine.

Sunday 18 May. Blencathra via Sharp Edge

The second fell tackled by Julia Bradbury in series one of Wainwright Walks. The man himself referred to it as 'the finest object in Lakeland' and he spent many hours exploring and mapping its several routes. Without doubt the most exhilerating of these is Sharp Edge. Please note that Sharp Edge is only for experienced fell walkers with a head for heights! Rendezvous at 10.00 am. in front of the White Lion at Scales (GR: NY 34336 26967). 6 miles – 2106ft of ascent. Grade AA and Grade 1 Scramble

Transport & Booking

We are operating a car sharing scheme for these walks (except Castle Crag on Wednesday which can be most easily reached using the Borrowdale Rambler bus service from Keswick - catch the bus outside Booths supermarket). When you book you will be asked whether you have a car and how many spare places you have. Fuel costs are shared between the passengers at a fixed rate of 25p per mile. (The shortest round trip from Keswick is approximately 10 miles and the longest is 30)

It is essential to book your place on the walks. The maximum number is 12 and judging by last year they are very popular. The cost of each walk is £12.
You will need to bring a packed lunch.

You can book on-line using the above link on this page
or use the 'Contact Us' link if you have any questions about the walks.
